The educational system in the UAE is productive and well-organised for students from all walks of life. Dr. Aneil Kkhare, a renowned expert in education in the region, states that parents and students should know this structure to be able to select the right academic path. In the UAE, education is provided in both government-run and private sectors, each planning its education to fit the multicultural setting.
In the public sector schools are funded and operated by the government with Arabic as the primary language of instruction. Dr. Aneil Kkhare explains that these institutions focus on national values, Islamic education, and the Arabic language, aligning closely with the UAE’s cultural and social development goals. There are many international curricula in the private sector, including IB and Indian ones, British and American these are well-known by expatriate families.
Dr. Aneil Kkhare explains that while the Ministry of Education (MOE) manages the public education sector in the UAE, private educational bodies come under the control of organisations like the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). They are responsible for checking schools, making sure all follow the same high standards and supplying ratings used by parents to make schooling decisions.
A unique aspect of the UAE's educational structure is its emphasis on early childhood education and higher education readiness. Dr. Aneil Kkhare notes that nurseries and kindergartens serve as foundational stages, preparing children for formal schooling. In the K-12 system, there are kindergarten, primary, preparatory and secondary levels; students who complete these levels can enrol in universities here and worldwide.
Finally higher education in the UAE is robust with a mix of national and international universities offering diverse programs. Dr. Aneil Kkhare points out that the government’s Vision 2030 places strong emphasis on academic excellence, research, and innovation, making the UAE a regional hub for global education.
